Opportunities for open ended learning allows curriculum expectations to unfold authentically!! The kids always impress me with how much they know, how well they collaborate and how creative and innovation they can be. The Following images are a collection of the thinking and learning that took place in just one block of time on Friday. Some of the students decided they wanted to work together to create Farm. This creation went on for several days. I was amazed at the level of collaboration, and oral language that took place during this process. I loved their thought processes, creativity and ability to problem solve as they worked together.
Check out our new carpet of the owl tree alphabet. It helps make a comfortable learning space for us all. Enjoying our books on "Family Literacy Day".
This week we practiced 3D Geometry in our Math Stations. There were 5 stations to rotate through. Student's worked collaboratively making booklets, play games and using Venn Diagrams to practice these concepts. We also worked with Mr. Skinner's Grade 3 class creating scripts to produce a short audio message "All About Me" using the app Tellagami. Here is an examples: https://tellagami.com/gami/U8S5I1/ The Grade 1's have also been hard at work creating various pieces of art work and composing music. We have started our study of Descriptive Writing. We have been trying to use our senses in our writing and answer the questions who, what, when and where to stretch out our sentences. Using a chart, we are collecting descriptive words from our read alouds.
Language- This week we had fun writing some letters to Santa. These were not wish lists, but rather letters to tell Santa a little bit about us. We even asked Santa some questions. We are hoping that Santa will write us back. We also came up with some new ideas of activities and items to add to our Christmas writing center. We will be writing Christmas Cards with special messages too. The student's have been using the app Telligami to create a 30 second message to teach others about what we have been learning about this month.
