We had a great first week in grade one! I am really enjoying getting to know all the children. Switching to a new grade and teacher is always an adjustment, especially moving from the kindergarten program to grade one. Your grade one child may be coming home quite tired for the first few days/weeks of school as their bodies are adjusting to the grade one schedule and routines that do not include a quiet/nap time. This week we focussed on getting to know you activities, building routines and creating a welcoming and safe environment in our classroom and school.

Once again, the Kingdom Club at St. Anne Catholic Elementary school is holding a food drive to collect canned goods and other non perishable items in support of the Kanata Food Cupboard. Our goal this year is to collect 1400 items in time for Thanksgiving. Our drive will take place from September 25th through to October 5th.

Reminder:
Report Cards – Report cards will go home on Thursday, February 15th. There are no scheduled interview times this term. Interviews will be conducted at the parent or teacher request.
When looking at your child’s report card please remember that the mark given is based on whether your child is achieving the provincial standard for their grade level at this time of year. It may help to think of the letter grades as such: D – starting to get there or still working on it (below midyear grade level) extra support will be needed at home and school, C – on their way or almost there (approaching midyear grade level), B – got it (at midyear grade level) and A – Wow – (independently above and beyond midyear grade level). Every child is learning and moving, so please remember that the letter grade may not truly reflect how much your child has learned, grown and improved since September. Please take the time to read the comments and suggestions for ways to continue to help your child at home.
